Martino’s Certificates

For us at Martino, taking care of the quality of our food products represents a concrete and paramount goal, because it is strictly linked to protecting our clients’ health and safety of life.

Being able to ensure safety and quality when producing and distributing a product; being able to identify and handle risk factors both privately and publically: these are the elements that mark our firm’s mission statement.

Having a strict and effective management system for our processes and their risks is the tool that allows us to gain trust and approval, to answer to our clients and consumers’ worries, to communicate our attention to quality, safety, expertise and efficiency during production, packaging and distribution, during the whole food supply chain.

That is why the Martino family, in the last few years, has hired specialised technicians that share the values of the mission statement and help the firm keeping up the most strict and rigid voluntary standards for food safety, such as BRC and IFS. These certifications are recognised by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative).

Martino takes care of every consumer, even the most demanding, and that is why our products have the following certifications: ORGANIC, DEMETER, KOSHER, VEGANOK

BRC Certification

BRC (British Retail Consortium) is a global standard, specifically developed for agri-food safety. The goal of BRC certification is to ensure quality and safety of agri-food products that suppliers and retailers in the large-scale distribution sell to consumers.

BRC global standard for agri-food safety is one of the operative tools that are used for due diligence (which means being able to prove that every reasonable measure has been taken in order to avoid an accident or a damage). It is also used to select the suppliers in the food supply chain.

This method allows to reduce the overall costs implied in the supply chain and to increase the level of safety for clients, suppliers and consumers.
This standard represents a great opportunity to show a company’s constant commitment towards safety, quality and respect for the rules that regulate the agri-food industry.

The certification for agri-food safety, according to BRC’s global standard, answers to the criteria set by Global Food Safety Initiative and CIES – The Food Business Forum. The latter is an international organisation whose members are CEOs and other supervisors from almost 400 retailers and producers all over the world. This standard has been accepted by most of food product retailers, as well as other standards of this industry, such as IFS, SQF and FSCC 22000.

IFS – International Food Standard

International Food Standard (IFS) is an international standard based on a shared evaluation method that allows to qualify and select the suppliers of food products. It allows the large-scale distribution to ensure quality and safety of the agri-food products that are sold and to control the quality of the products, thanks to its brand.

Retailers that adopt a shared standard to evaluate the quality of their suppliers reduce significantly the recourse to third party analysis and can handle the supply chain more efficiently, reducing overall costs of the process and increasing the level of food-safety for their clients.

IFS was developed by professionals of Large-scale distribution from France, Germany and Italy, and their goal was to manage the processes and limit the risk of accidents. It represents an international standard for the assessment of food products for distributors, retailers and wholesalers. It has been adopted by the main Italian associations in the industry, and it covers the whole process along the supply chain, from production to transformation of raw materials coming from agriculture and farming.

The requirements imposed by this standard refer to quality management systems, HACCP method, and other criteria of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and GHP (Good Hygiene Practice). The goal is to ensure quality and safety of food products, as well as to meet the laws that rule this industry.

Organic Certification

The organic certification applies to the products that are processed and intended to be used as food.

The principles behind the processing of the products, according to the organic method, are the following:
produce organic food using ingredients coming from organic agriculture;
never use substances or processing methods that may be misleading as to the real nature of the product;
accurately process food, preferably using organic mechanical and physical methods.

It is important to recall that the certification of organic products is a channelling system, therefore MARTINO uses organic certified raw materials and allots appropriate areas and production lines, in order to avoid the risk of cross-contamination.

Demeter Certification

Demeter brand ensures that food products, or any of their ingredients, come from biodynamic agriculture or farming.

According to the biodynamic method, soil fertility and vitality must be obtained through natural means: compost made of solid fertiliser, plant material used as a fertiliser, crop rotation, mechanical pest control and mineral- and plant-based pesticides.

This brand can be found in every continent: it controls and certifies the whole range of biodynamical products from all over the world.

Associations of every nation are reunited under an International Federation that coordinates the product specifications.

Demeter-International represents about 4000 Demeter producers in 36 different states.

A complete verification process ensures the strict compliance with the International Rules for Demeter Production and Processing, as well as the compliance with the organic rules that are applied in every country, for every step of the process: from crop production to the processing of the product.

Kosher Certification

Nowadays, our rhythms have changed, we often eat outside and preparing food following the strict Hebraic laws could be pretty complicated. That is why we felt the need of ready to eat products that are Kosher certified.

A product that has to be Kosher certified has to comply with very strict quality standards. Every procedure during production and packaging, as well as every ingredient used to prepare a product, has to comply with the rigid Jewish dietary laws of Kashrut.

Experts check periodically that these rigid rules are followed during production, and the certification (that has an expiration date and has to be periodically repeated) can be revoked at any time.

As these rules are so rigid, consumers feel safe no matter what their religion is. Kosher certification has therefore become a seal of quality all over the world. In some countries, such as the United States of America, the biggest consumers of Kosher products are not Jewish, but people belonging to every religion that consider this brand a guarantee of quality, cleanliness and purity.

VEGANOK is the first and only certification for Ethical Vegan products created in Italy. Every member of its staff is vegan and they all care deeply about spreading this ethical choice.

VEGANOK is the most widely spread ethical standard in the world, with more than 1000 certified companies and tens of thousands of products certified both in Italy and abroad.

It can be found in the most important fairs of the industry and it reassures the consumer on the absence of animal parts in every kind of product.
